Kate Bee is a writer from New York who went to college to study counseling psychology and currently spends her days playing with children in Cleveland, Ohio. She does not enjoy crossword puzzles, nail polish, or wearing shoes; but takes great pleasure in cooking delicious vegan food, climbing on rocks, and painting with all of the colors of the wind. She prefers to be outside whenever possible, climbing, swimming, hiking, and generally adventuring. She is not too particular about genre of music, but finds certain niches where she finds herself most at home. She never gets sick of Old Crow Medicine Show, Olof Arnalds, Beethoven, Cats in Boots, or Cake.

Tangled up in Blue is a bluegrass ensemble based at Yale University.  Twenty or so students and others put “The Ramblin’ Kind” a full length album, together last year and it is wonderful.  This group has existed since 1986, obviously cycling through new …

Bear Medicine–lofty, haunting, astral sounds from the hills.

I love when bands cannot be fit into a genre.  When this one arrived in my inbox it said “rocksy, folksy, weird” next to it. After spending some time with this album, I can assure you that it goes way beyond that.  There’s …

Tyler Burns–suburban gothic

When I first visited this guy’s website I had to do a double take, “That’s my couch.” I thought, staring blankly at the background of the front page.  It’s not exact, but it’s pretty close.  For those of you who haven’t already gone …

The Roadside Scholars–

Pop music out of Southern California has something about it that I just love.  It clears up a case of the winter blues real quick.  It’s cold everywhere right now, so you probably have the winter blues too!  You should check out The …

Jeremiah Daly–real, live, and introspective.

This man has a sound like a cup of french pressed coffee at six-thirty on a Tuesday morning.  I’ve had Jeremiah Daly’s latest EP on repeat since early and what a beautiful source of bliss it has been.  “Live at True Tone Studios” …

Benjamin’s Brother–compelling, magical, and not too sweet.

You know how most people gain some weight over the holidays because of all of the cookies, rum cake, and rich foods?  It’s fun to indulge once a year in all of the bad things we tell ourselves that we aren’t supposed to …

Mackenzie Shivers–celtic folk-pop, telling stories and living freely

You should listen to this girl.  She made me smile, caught my attention in just seconds.  She is a good remedy for a cloudy Tuesday in December. I felt very alive when I went outside this morning.  The wind was gentle, the temperature …

Mayor Byrne–idyllic, forested reality.

When winter starts up every year, I get weird.  I lie on the floor and stare out of the window, I cry a lot.  I run around on the ice barefoot, saying things like, “I think I need to be more grounded.”  I …
