Kate Bee is a writer from New York who went to college to study counseling psychology and currently spends her days playing with children in Cleveland, Ohio. She does not enjoy crossword puzzles, nail polish, or wearing shoes; but takes great pleasure in cooking delicious vegan food, climbing on rocks, and painting with all of the colors of the wind. She prefers to be outside whenever possible, climbing, swimming, hiking, and generally adventuring. She is not too particular about genre of music, but finds certain niches where she finds herself most at home. She never gets sick of Old Crow Medicine Show, Olof Arnalds, Beethoven, Cats in Boots, or Cake.

YouTube Gem: The Parker Brothers–Tearing Down the Ghost Town

This.  This is wholesome, but not grandma wholesome.  That’s not to say that your grandma won’t like it or that there is something wrong with the grandma brand of wholesome.  But grandma-wholesome tends to offer you oatmeal cookies with raisins because you need …

Artist Interview: Honeybucket–essential Cleveland newgrass.

Last week I sat down with Honeybucket, a Cleveland band that I have been impressed by for a couple of years.  At first, it was because they reminded me of my previous home in Scranton and my previous favorite hometown bluegrass band–The Coal …

Brett Shady–dusty, nostalgic sunshine

It has been raining here all summer but if it was sunny I would love to be lying under a tree with a glass of basil lemonade and the summery sounds of Brett Shady latest album.  “National Hotel” is easy listening.  It’s not …

The Barrel Boys–timeless, classic bluegrass

The Barrel Boys are pretty darn bluegrass.  They’re perfect for square dancing under the millions of stars in Wyoming.  They’re perfect for driving in an antique truck through the prairies of eastern Colorado.  They’re perfect for raising your heart rate, putting a smile …

Artist Spotlight: Alison May–pastel textured smoke tones

Alison May has a seismically unique sound full of textures and layers.  At one point while I was listening to her latest “Dusk Interval” EP, I accidentally turned on Hauschka and it stayed on in the background without me noticing for a long …

Album Review: The Whiskey Charmers–sexy, ambling, neat

Let me start with saying that I thoroughly enjoyed this album.  I enjoyed every moment of it equally and more so each time I have listened to it.  The Whiskey Charmers are a bumping and rambling trio hailing from Detroit.  They boast three …

Quick Hit: The Seagulls–psychedelic, soulful, British.

Not too long ago Greg covered Mark Moldre’s “An Ear to the Earth” album which featured a true 1930’s vibe.  I bought the album and often play it for myself and guests.  This new song by the Seagulls has a similar swanky sound, …

Album Review: The Harmaleighs–soulful, gentle, harmonious.

Haley Grant and Kalee Jasperson met in college and something magical happened.  They began painting with music and pulled together to become the Harmaleighs.  When you listen to their album, “Pretty Picture, Dirty Brush” it evokes softly textured images in softly filtered hues. …
