Kate Bee is a writer from New York who went to college to study counseling psychology and currently spends her days playing with children in Cleveland, Ohio. She does not enjoy crossword puzzles, nail polish, or wearing shoes; but takes great pleasure in cooking delicious vegan food, climbing on rocks, and painting with all of the colors of the wind. She prefers to be outside whenever possible, climbing, swimming, hiking, and generally adventuring. She is not too particular about genre of music, but finds certain niches where she finds herself most at home. She never gets sick of Old Crow Medicine Show, Olof Arnalds, Beethoven, Cats in Boots, or Cake.

Lulu Mae–organic folk that rocks and rolls

I just returned from Idaho and have been in a kind of funk all week after leaving the land of glitter and wildness and returning to flat, industrial Cleveland.  I haven’t listened to any music because nothing seemed to fit my funk.  Today …

Br’er Rabbit–adventurous, mountain music.

The story of Br’er Rabbit has been rewritten. Instead of a racially insensitive folk tale set in the Deep South, it is a story of growing up in the Pacific Northwest;three kids running through the woods and around their small city like they …

House of Hats-listen to me, listen to this!

Today I have the great privilege of covering a band which I was mildly obsessed with in college and never got over. I would spend Thursday evenings trawling through YouTube videos taken in Brighton music venues and wishing that they would just make …

Stacey Randol

One of my favorite things about Ear to the Ground is the diversity of music I am given the access to immerse myself in. I used to settle comfortably into a niche for a while until my next niche came along. I don’t …

Austin Plaine – Brisk and peppy country music

Austin Plaine has a good, solid Georgia/Carolina sound but there’s a cool breeze blowing through it out of Minneapolis.  This Minnesota boy left for Nashville last year and obviously brought the cool breeze with him. This collection of country songs is a bit …

Young Beautiful in a Hurry–high energy, high quality, so sexy.

This is my message to Young Beautiful In a Hurry–”please come and play in Cleveland.  I’m stuck on you.”  Every few days I sit down with the newest band or singer in my inbox and I think about the last one.  I think, …

Michael Stovall – Georgia – Soft Country Songs that Give You Chills

The other night I was home alone for several hours.  I typically don’t mind being alone. I listen to music and dance like a fool around the apartment, or I do silly things like re-arrange the paintings on the wall. This particular night, …

The Forty-Eight–Radio Symmetry and an Anthem Against Industrialized Art.

Alissa Beyer has been a solo act for a long time.  The singer-songwriter recently decided that it was time to try, not something else, but something new.  Now she has a band.  A great band that supports her sultry rock-and-roll voice so so …

Joe Young–honest, nostalgic, and beautiful.

In highschool I always dreamed of some guy singing me to sleep, gently picking away at his guitar.  I dated a musician for a while and he was cool, but never sang to me, mostly just to himself and sometimes to other people. …
