La Sécurité – “Hot Topic”
This Montreal collective is incredibly engaging with thoughtful and alluring post punk. The final track off their debut album is unsettling but also very danceable, reminding us of early industrial. This was initially meant to soundtrack an avant garde dance piece, which explains the video and overall dark groove. There is a lot to love about this act, but the social commentary found lyrically is incredibly searing. We do not know if this track is for everyone, but it definitely should be.
belabela – “Blood”
This one is bittersweet for us. Recently the creative force behind belabela passed away. This is heartbreaking, but even more so when we think of what a unique songwriting talent she was. The electro shoe gaze style is exceptional and haunting. Reminiscent of 90’s powerhouses like Tricky and Massive Attack, her talent is palpable. “Blood” is a fitting tribute of an expressive artist and her one of a kind talent.
