Fresh Music Thursday: Brenna Whitaker : an explosive voice and a classic soul

Some things never go out of style. Unfortunately, some day, the popular music we cling so tightly to now will be a relic, replaced by a future sound or style which in turn will be fossilized for yet another. Yet, in this bleak musical existence, there is hope. The big band, jazz infused, lounge singer act that makes names like Ella, Frank, and Tony forever engrained in our musical lexicon.

Enter Brenna Whitaker. The LA-based pop soul vocalist has a steady appreciation to those who came before while still understanding the current trends in music. She has an explosive voice and a sultry confidence that has won her fans from Stevie Wonder to Michael Buble.

Starting in theater at 11 years old, she later moved to New York to work with Broadway titans before coming to jazz in her 20’s. These experiences make for a rich talent with limitless potential. Confident yet vulnerable, Whitaker is releasing her much-anticipated debut of classic standards on November 6th. The album is as diverse as it is fun. From Sam Sparro’s “Black & Gold” to the cut she did for Disney of “It’s Not Easy Being Green” from one Kermit the Frog (who also never goes out of style).

Brenna is sure to win more fans with her brand of timeless vocals and heartbreaking swagger. Check out her music below, and order her new album here.
