Fresh Music Thursday: : : : Brothertiger: : : : Brooklyn’s electronic dream

There was a certain unmistakable feeling felt during watching the Ryan Gosling movie Drive. Something was inherently cool about watching him coast effortlessly through the streets of California. While I don’t remember the particular moments or subplots, that feeling is forever laminated to my soul. Cool and familiar, yet alien and transcendent. This is how I felt while listening to the work of Brooklyn based electronic artist Brothertiger. The solo project of John Jagos is able to wash over the reality we shape for ourselves and leave remnants of something undeniably cooler. His strength is in the environment he creates. Electronic synth pop can be painful to listen to if it fails in authenticity. Yet Jagos is able to create a warm inviting atmosphere that draws listeners in and transports them to something deeper within.

“Out of Touch” is the new single from his upcoming LP of the same name. If you enjoyed the Drive soundtrack or are into artists like M83, then you will definitely be looking forward to the album’s release in December. It is a dreamy pop stream of consciousness that has the uncanny ability to both break and encourage your heart. This is the ethos of Brothertiger who beautifully laments in his second single of the album, “Wake”, “reality is wearing me down”. This is what it sounds like for an artist to have his fingers on the pulse of the spirit of the age in which he creates. It’s something we at Ear to the Ground value deeply. Take a listen to Brothertiger and check him out on a supporting tour for Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr and Reptar (dates below).
