Field Trip – “Make Your Mind”
The US act Field Trip perfectly capture a modern dream track on “Make Your Mind”. Soaked in sun and surf rock guitar, the group blend ’60’s pop with a more current indie psych rock style, with the result being incredible. It is the sort of track that floats on past the finish and has been on an endless loop in our household. The band has crafted an aesthetic that works perfectly in the current time. We can definitely hear summer coming, with Field Trip soundtracking it.
Harmony Redford – “Indecisive”
Redford has long been one of our favorite songwriters. Her ability to capture a feeling of longing with catchy melodies has set her apart from peers. This continues to be the case with maybe her strongest effort yet, “Indecisive“. The song explores the indecision of relationships (as well as coffee orders . . . in which we can relate). Her sound is beautifully human while still sounding transcendent and dreamy. Her vocals continue to melt hearts while putting musical souls at ease.
The Shadow Self – “Enraptured”
This one is absolutely searing. The rock vibe here is foreboding, layered, and combustible in the best of ways. Harder rock has been difficult to cover because honestly, we are extremely picky. This one, however, is different. The music video alone is worth sharing. With this, they do what many bands fail to by merging the sound with a crucial visual medium. Lyrically, there is a lot to unpack in the layered and intelligent wordplay about trauma and religious shortsightedness. The end result is one of our favorite tracks of the year.
