Three dynamic indie rock tracks that will get you dancing this week

The Marley Woods – “Good Times”
-There’s an optimistic energy to this track that tickled my fancy from first listen. The harmonies are good, a bit of a hat tip to the mid 20th century power pop bands, but really the sound is most like a band from the folk revival called Ivan and Alyosha. I appreciate the quality of the songwriting, the vocals, and definitely the harmonies. The lyrics focus on the nostalgia of looking back on good times in our lives. It’s a song that feels perfect for a high school reunion or some other “shared memory” experience. It’s catchy, too.

JAWBERRY – “Wanna Be Like Me”
-If you’re a fan of up tempo rock music (as one should be), then this song is sure to resonate. I appreciate how there are elements of early 2000s alt rock blended with a more contemporary production style. The full sound is definitely pleasing to the ear. There’s a jam band element to the way the power chords and the aggressive vocal meet. The band that popped into my mind while I was considering this track was Eve 6. Give them a spin and let me know if you agree. I think it has just the right amount of angst mixed with pop rock flavors to make for a quality track.

Max Challis – “In My Feelings”
-There’s a cool, understated folk rock energy to this track that makes it stand out from the crowd right away. The quality of the lead vocal is evident from first listen. I dig the harmony vocals, of course, but it’s a moving pop rock style. The crooning melody on the chorus, “always up in my feelings” works really well. It’s also frankly admirable to hear vocalists singing so openly about feelings in a way that doesn’t feel brooding or sad; it’s more of a reflection of what is, versus what ought to be. I dig the sentimentality of the lyrics and the way they balance with the quality harmony vocals. I don’t want to say Eagles, necessarily, but somewhere in that range of harmony driven rock music is a worthy comparison. It’s definitely my kind of rock music! (And yes, if it reminds you of Morningbird it’s because Max Challis is a member of Morningbird)
