Jillian Lake – “Playing Dead”
The best artists can create their own trademark feeling for listeners. It weaves throughout their catalogue and as they mature, they hone it captivating fans for a career. We think of this when we hear the absolute captivating expression of Vancouver artist Jillian Lake. Her emotive vocals are incredible, while her presence and song construction brings comparisons of some of our favorite artists. The ethereal “Playing Dead” is a great introduction to the dizzying talent of an artist on the rise.
Hunter Metts – “Don’t Fail Me Now”
Vocally, Hunter Metts has a way of breaking our heart before he mends it. The sonic space created on “Don’t Fail Me Now” is difficult to classify. In ways, it is lo fi, but also has a folk Americana spirit. Somehow, it works, which is further proof of a young songwriting talent. He will undoubtedly bring comparisons to Bon Iver and Novo Armor which are well deserved. There is a lot to like about his latest EP and we think listeners will especially love his authentic and emotive style.
Tom The Lion – “Warning Shot”
“Warning Shot” gives us all the feels. Lyrically it is compelling while vocally it soothes as it weaves in and out of grounded but abstract lyrics. The D.I.Y. indie pop anthem “Warning Shot” is incredibly dreamy, compelling listeners to melt into their favorite chair. Their latest album, released in October, will be somewhat of a concept album complete with a mini movie released. We appreciate the expression and creative risks of Tom The Lion and think many will love this one.
