Eclectic Rock Acts Who Impressed Us this Week

Wodan Boys – “Power”

This one makes us want to dance. In the shadow of Queens of the Stone Age and Royal Blood, Wodan Boys drip with swagger and cool. The act is releasing their third EP, which is an undeniable jump forward. Ambitious and tight, the band is firing on all their talent. One could classify their style as “stoner rock” but we think it is a little too reductive. They are surely a rock act, but also have a palpable band chemistry and urgency rarely found in this genre, or anywhere else for that matter. “Power” is a coming out party for an immensely talented act.

Slow Coast – “Lotta Good”

If one was to look for the quintessential summer indie pop track that is a complete banger, “Lotta Good” would be it. Upbeat while still being cool, the project of Matt Lawton is riveting. Laid back enough to be authentic, the track carries some pop heavy ear worm lyrics. We kept singing the chorus long after the first listen, which is a perfect demonstration of the artist’s talent. He is slowly building a catalogue of these tracks which, at some point, will bring the artist into a much larger arena, and deservingly so. He is a rare talent.

First Day of Spring – “The Rising Tide”

We are suckers for well crafted post punk ballads. First Day of Spring beautifully captures this love with a mature style. Musically it is a little ominous while vocally it has a perfect croon reminiscent of Interpol. “The Rising Tide” is urgent at times, but also slips into a dream like state we did not hear coming but were pleasantly surprised when it did. The act have a beautiful enigmatic quality which further adds to their talent. The track is a great addition to any pensive and self aware listener.
