Three thoughtful new folk tunes that will connect with your heart

Our Atlantic Roots – “I Do”
-If you’re a fan of acoustic folk harmony duos, you’ll find a lot to like about this sound from Our Atlantic Roots. It’s a love song, for sure. It’s not just about a relationship; this is about the commitment of marriage. The intimacy in the recording captures the beauty of dedication and the vows of marriage, going above and beyond. I could definitely see this being a song used in a wedding ceremony. The subtle country influences give it a romantic sway perfect for a first married dance. I like this one so much I might just share it with my wife of 17 years. It’s really good.

Plain Faraday – “Laugh It All Away”
-The fact that this track opens with a story about trying to get Phoebe Bridgers number… just… I don’t know, really sets a mood. But the song itself is so much more than just that vignette. It’s about making the most of the opportunities and situations in our lives. In some ways, it’s like the folk song version of the phrase “Seize the Day!” I love the subtle horns on this track. The entire mood is joyful! “Don’t forget to give yourself a little grace.” Amen to that. I really enjoy the vibes on this track.

Bridie Beth – “Exposed”
-The cool acoustic element of this song has the unique character of feeling both brand new as well as a link back to class mid-20th century songwriting. There’s a beautiful balance between the guitar, piano, and vocal here. The easy going expression in each lyrical line feels like a dear friend telling you a story, or giving you advice. There’s a sweet accessibility to the song that invites listeners into the story. “And on it goes…” If you’ve ever felt like you were always on the defensive, this song is for you.
