Soda Blonde – “Bad Machine”
This one has a killer groove. Danceable and refined, the Irish act are due for a breakout. Their second album is full of thoughtful lyrics soundtracked by fluidly engaging instrumentation. “Bad Machine” provides a singable chorus that is sure to be sung back while you shake your head and hips. We love the genre blend and refreshing talent of Soda Blonde.
Honeycrush – “Milk Teeth”
The honest songwriting here is reminiscent of Liz Phair and PJ Harvey. This is fitting, because the style of Honeycrush is often described as “post-grunge”. Searing lyrics paired with crunchy guitar, the artist absolutely grabs and keeps the listener’s attention. The solo project is evocative and builds with a combustible flare. With the increasing number of artists dipping into the grunge and post grunge era for inspiration, we are glad to find thoughtful songwriters like this who both nod to the past and create with new introspection.
Desk Lamps – “Buddy”
With all the cares of life, sometimes we need an escape. Enter lo fi rockers Desk Lamps. Their music is perfect for sinking into oblivion. Their talent to soundtrack a long introspective chill out session on the couch is unparalleled. Their musical talent is emotive but also meditative. It is difficult to classify them with a label that perfectly suits them. This is what we as music critics prefer. We love their intentional sound and restraint. “Buddy” is an explorative journey into escape and consciousness. To say we love them is an understatement.
