Three folk rock tunes that will have you reflecting on the season change

bandazian – “Please / Go”
-If you’ve ever been in a position where someone you love is about to leave, this song will absolutely capture that emotion for you (for better and for worse). There’s such a beautiful lightness to the composition that captures a heavy set of emotions. The understated vocal works really well mixed with the authentic driving rock rhythm. Something about the extended instrumental breaks reminds me of classic rock bands like Canned Heat and The Band just riffing off for a while letting the listener daydream a little. Give it a spin and you’ll hear what I mean; it’s an adventure in the best way.

Nathan Xander – “Saturday”
-I don’t often use the marketing notes for my coverage of music, but the first compared artist of this track was the late Tom T. Hall and I have to say that’s absolutely spot on. If you like that style of clever songwriting with unique turns of phrase and a fun little narrative tune, give this one a spin for sure. Xander sings with that kind of droopy “I like beer” vintage Tom T. Hall style that his fans are sure to love. If you miss the classic days of nostalgic imagery and real personable writing in folksy music, definitely give this track from Nathan Xander a spin.

Josiah David Swim – “Hold it up to the light”
-If you’re a fan of acoustic singer songwriters, you’ll find a lot to like in this new track from Josiah David Swim. The pacing and phrasing on this track really captured my attention from first listen. It’s a slower burn than a lot of folk rock tunes we’ve featured in the past, but trust me when I say it’s worth gently closing your eyes to ease into this one. It has a beautiful sense of melody and the message is far more introspective than one might expect from this genre. It’s the kind of song that’s perfect for taking a long look at where you are and how you got here. This one is soothing while being incredibly thought provoking.
