3 Heartstopping New Releases

March – “Car Song”

“I get all my ideas when I’m driving” starts this emotive gem. It is the perfect contemplative driving song. The songwriter crafts a slow building track with beautiful songwriting to spare. While there are many nods to influences here, it is wonderfully unique. Vocally, we absolutely love how the story told grabs our attention. Her latest EP is due out soon and will stun those who enjoy stripped back and powerful songwriting.

Emina Sonnad -“Turn the Record Over”

This hits all of the feels. “Turn the Record Over” is a master class of what piano ballads should be. Beautiful, ethereal, and stunning, the songwriter reminds us of Apple and Spektor, which is the highest praise we can offer. The Seattle born artist has been based in Berlin the last few years while working as a software engineer. Her attention to detail and restraint helps her to build a minimalist but engaging piece of indie songwriting. Sonnad is one of our favorite new finds.

The Psychotic Monks – “Gamble and Dangle”

This sounds like little else being created today. The French post punkers build an ominous track that feels like it could combust at any moment. Lyrically it is sort of a free verse style that is interesting, but perhaps it is the sound that hooks us. Part industrial, the band is experimental but earnest. One of the great parts of this gig is we discover acts like this, who have already on their third album. We understand this may not be for everyone, but it will expand your musical tastes if you let it.
