Three trendy indie pop tracks that you can’t wait to share with your best friends

HOAX – “Goldeneyes”
-The groove on this track hits so undeniably well, it could make the stiffest of non-musical people move. The atmospheric mix feels really good. When I listen to this song, I feel like I should be in a trendy apartment vibing with some friends. I don’t know why I get that connotation, but I do. The energy is super chilled out and does a nice job of meeting that perfect mix of groovy movement with chilled out vibes. In other words, this one is a bit of ear candy and you should put it on your indie pop playlist.

AJ Smith – “Cooler”
-The dynamic mix of this track stands out right away. It’s clear that the artist had a vision for a vibed out sound with tons of swelling dynamics. I appreciate the start-and-stop rhythm that pulls the listener into and out of the enigmatic chorus. The lyrics are relatable and slightly humorous about messing up a first impression with someone you want to impress. If you’ve ever blown your shot meeting someone new and wish you could try again, this song is for you. I particularly love that the mood isn’t panicked or frustrated; it’s determined to chill out and be better. The song’s musical structure mirrors that “coolness” quite well.

Rhys – “Thanks a lot now I can’t smile”
-This is a song about what sounds like depression and anxiety. It’s about the emotional effect of a relationship and how difficult it can be to feel normal again. The dynamics on this track are absolutely INCREDIBLE. The production mix is absolutely outstanding. The way the vocal comes through with relatable, emotionally driven lyrics is fantastically rewarding to listen. But let me tell you, despite the energy of the song this is not a feel-good tune. It’s true to the genre of indie pop and well worth it for folks who need that dash of inspiration to help process the difficult times.
