Three incredible standout Americana tracks

JD Casper – “Sink like a stone”
-From the first time I heard this track by JD Casper, I couldn’t help but think of classics like John Hartford or the late great Tom T. Hall. The narrative vibe here is expressive and intriguing. The production on the track brings together all the great elements of classic Americana music from the jangling banjo to the vibrant harmonica. The combination feels as pure as the Mississippi current. The lyrical imagery is personal yet relatable for outsiders. It’s just a well written song from start to finish and we’re happy to support it here.

Kiely Connell – “Calumet Queen”
-Every once in a blue moon, I hear a voice that makes me stop right in my tracks and ask, “who is THAT?” Kiely Connell has that kind of powerful Americana voice. The expressive style sounds like it was forged in the fires of America’s own mills or mined from America’s own hills. Connell’s voice is matched by an excellent rock-influenced Americana sound that fits perfectly with the sound we’ve been curating for some time. Connell sounds like she’s got something to say and you damn well better listen to her. She’s got mud running through her veins. That’s a metaphor… but it doesn’t feel far from the truth. I’ve been privileged to know some folks like this and they are not to be trifled with. I love everything about this song from production to message.

Timothy Edward Carpenter ft. Abby Holliday – “TV”
-This is a highly philosophical piece of art with a beautiful composition to support it. The lead vocal is sometimes whispered in the vein of William Fitzsimmons (who we happen to love). The energy of the track is outstanding. The constant questions about “what do you think that means?” is actually really comforting. The layered atmospheric style here doesn’t feel like a lot of Americana being created today, but we definitely find that it’s a much-needed wrinkle in the genre. There’s a heartfelt sincerity to the storytelling that reminds me of some of the greats in the genre. It’s a brilliant composition and well worth your listen and like.
