HRDY – “Raindrops”
-While we don’t typically feature music with nature samples, this one is delightfully well done. The phrasing of the piano work here is absolutely outstanding. This is precisely the type of neoclassical music we support. It’s calming without being too repetitive. As each melody line unfolds, there’s a new contemplative energy that emerges. In fact, this might be my favorite neoclassical piece I’ve found thus far in 2021. It’s truly outstanding.
Counting Waves – “Free fall”
-There’s a soothing energy to this track from Counting Waves that just might remind listeners of the beach. The methodical repetition leads to a lulling and hypnotic sensation. Yet each new melody line seems to evolve a bit toward something new and unexpected, which enlivens the brain of the listener. It’s really an adventure listening to this piece of music. Gently close your eyes and let this one take you somewhere. It’s perfect for reading, writing, studying, or just… imagining a place other than where you are. I appreciate this auditory escape.
Juan Marie Solare – “Inverted Rainbow”
-Regular readers of our neoclassical columns will know the name Juan Marie Solare as we’ve covered his writing in the past. This beautiful new composition “Inverted Rainbow” is sure to find a lot of supporters here. There are elements of classical music that ebb and flow throughout the piece. The shifts in tone and direction of the piece keep the listener wondering. The title “Inverted Rainbow” probably has a story to it, but for me it’s a piece about creating familiar structures and then flipping them in unexpected ways. It’s quite stunning and well worth a listen.
