Los Angeles’ King Washington are prepping a new album, and it’s going to be huge. Drawing from diverse inspirations such as Grizzly Bear, REM, and Kings of Leon, their first single “My Reflection” reveals a fresh sound that may be the future of indie rock. Tinged with a little Muse style vocals at the beginning, it then launches into an alt drum beat before showcasing some amazing harmonies and sampling. It is rare for a rock act to harmonize as well as these guys, but this is simply one of the many talents the band has. They have a unique sound that is as creative as it is familiar. Already, the boys have garnered the attention of acts like The Arctic Monkeys and Collective Soul, which earned them an opening spot for both. On their new album entitled Potential, vocalist Tyson Kelly explains how their sound evolved: “I think we’ve done a good job of simplifying the structures a bit and focusing more on stronger melodies and clearer messages, while still staying true to our signature King Washington sound”. The sound of the single is sweeping and cinematic. It comes in waves, as you never truly know what to expect next within the three and a half minute jam.
2017 is set to be a defining year for the band as Potential comes out on January 27th, followed by a national tour. Check out the new track below and let us know what you think.
