Sierra Sky – “Higher with me”
-This is a love song complete with a tender acoustic guitar and an equally tender, lovely vocal. There’s an approachability to this song that I genuinely appreciate. The easy going style invites the listener to lean into the vibes naturally. The chorus invites the listener to join in singing along with each carefully expressed line. If you’ve ever had the blessing of falling in love, then you’ll relate to the lyrical sentiment at the heart of the song. “Keep it going and we’ll just wait and see…” That’s exactly what it feels like when things are going well. This is such a sweet and unexpected track; I’m happy to support this type of folksy pop music here.
Thin Lear – “My Old Friend”
-If you’re looking for a song that feels like it might have been recorded in 1965 and put in a tape vault, never to be shared until 2025… well, this might just be the song for you. Everything from the pacing to the style of the guitars feels appropriately and enjoyably vintage. I wonder if the lead vocalist and songwriter has spent some serious time listening to John Lennon’s songwriting, because I definitely feel a connection there. The phrasing of this song is outstanding. It’s conversational and poetic at the same time, which is incredibly difficult to do. It’s a song as much about vibes as it is about message, so just spin it and feel the picture that it paints around you. For fans of Beatles-adjacent music… and maybe a slice of the Jackson Browne Laurel Canyon energy as well. It’s a treat.
Oscar Lindsey – “Sidelines”
-When people ask about the songs we approve, it’s hard to explain that when you hear it… you just know it. This song was an ETTG song from the moment I first clicked play. It has everything that has defined our site from day one… great songwriting, incredible harmonies, and a feeling that you just want to hear more. If someone told me this was a new song from Good Old War, I would take a few minutes to refute them. The songwriting has that pop-meets-folk-meets-theatrical in a way that I really admire. Lindsey’s lyrical flair has a nice mix of gritty realities (droplets of dehydration… haha) with some sweet lines about admiring someone “from the sidelines,” which is a super cute way to express infatuation. Heck, even the production elements feel like something out of the Anthony Green and Good Old War camp. This is such a lovely listen… I hope you share it with all of you dearest friends.
