Three new indie folk tunes that will have you wanting a good book and a warm drink while you listen

Daniel Del Russo – “I Believe in You”
-If you’ve been around my writing, then you know I have featured artists like Pacific Gold and others who expressed deep, thoughtful theological concepts. Similar to what I loved about the Oh Helloes, there’s a beautiful style to this reflective acoustic songwriting from Daniel Del Russo. The lyrical concept is that of still believing, even when we’re not quite sure. I appreciate the calm sincerity of the track. The cathartic acoustic guitar is enough to make me want to listen, but the thoughtful lyrics and careful vocal expressions are definitely engaging. There’s so much doubt, hope, and faith here… I admire this so much.

Elijah Vale – “Something to Miss”
-If you’re a fan of acoustic guitar and careful expressive lyrics, definitely check out this new track from Elijah Vale. There’s a rhythmic quality to the melodic structure that pulls the listener right in. There’s a plucky substance to the way the secondary string instruments (is that a banjo?) that keeps it moving well. The whole composition feels like it captures the past and the present all at once. There’s a slight rasp in Vale’s vocal that works really well for the sound, too. Fans of artists like the Head and the Heart or Ivan and Alyosha will find a lot to like in this new folk energy. If you’ve ever gone on an adventure that made you miss home (even if you didn’t have a good home) then, these lyrics will certainly relate. This is a song that feels light and fun but is actually lyrically quite heavy.

Dune Blue – “Telephone”
-I’m a music nerd, but not necessarily an audiophile or sound nerd… but I do want to know what makes the electric guitar sound like this! It’s SO GOOD. When I clicked play, all I could think was “that sounds like a telecaster.” Maybe it is, but maybe it’s not. Whatever it is, though, the sound is crispy and vintage. The vocal harmonies over it are absolutely delightful. The full sound is one that just feels comfortable and makes me want to settle in with a comfy beverage and good book. There’s a thoughtfulness to the composition style that feels like you could really lean in and listen close, or you’d feel happy to have this on in the background for a chill afternoon. I appreciate the spirited vocal element on the chorus and the overall quality of the performance. I found myself saying, “wow, this is so good… who IS this?” It’s Dune Blue and I’m glad to be the one to introduce them to you.
