Rising Star: Folk songstress Amelie Lucille captures our hearts with these two new tunes

Amelie Lucille – “Mess”
-From the first time I clicked play on this track, I knew Amelie Lucille was going to be a special artist. The expression in her vocal goes from good to great throughout the track. Each line seems to be written with depth and precision. It’s emotional, expressive, and confronts the need to “let go of this mess.” There’s a pain in the letting go. The haunting chord choices capture the tension inherent in the conversation and relationship. Lucille creates such beauty out of what seems to be a terrible situation; this is an artful expression of a relatable concept. This is a breakup song that bleeds.

Amelie Lucille – “Token”
-There’s a brightness in the acoustic guitar on this song that makes me give a half smile every time I hear the opening of the track. Lucille throws back some nostalgia towards the early days of a relationship, yet brings it to a current context of that old love being now broken. Those old memories have gone from wonderful to painful. The expressive writing here helps the listener connect with visceral, meaningful romantic memories and the pain that has evolved from them. The songwriting reminds me a bit of Joni Mitchell and similar vintage folk songwriters. Lucille is on a promising track in that direction. This song is good and shows promise of a rising folk songstress.

***SPECIAL NOTE: We don’t usually include biographical detail as we want the music to stand on its own, but it’s worth noting here that Amelie Lucille is 14 years old.
