Noah Gundersen – “Sleepless in Seattle”
-Noah Gundersen is one of the defining artists of our site. I’ve interviewed him twice and wrote a pretty engrossing feature on his work. This new album represents a renaissance of the Gundersen sound; it’s not an intentional throwback to his early sound so much as an integration of his early acoustic-driven style with some of his more intriguing contemporary production choices. It’s also completely about Gundersen’s heart-on-his-sleeve love for Seattle. As I said to my co-editor when sharing this track with him, “Noah feels like himself on this one.”
The Drives – “End at the door”
-We can’t possibly approve every indie rock track we get, but it can be hard to separate the good from the great. This track from The Drives gives that nice easy going rock style that might make you think it’s pretty good… but trust me to stay with it. Once you get to the soaring vocal on the chorus you’ll feel this light and engaging energy that moves the track from good to great. There are some unique effects in the background here that move from some of the more traditional sounds we typically feature toward a captivating, truly unique rock listening experience.
Uncle Strut – “The Ballad of Uncle Strut”
-If you’re looking for a funk-infused pop rock sound, check out Uncle Strut. I almost passed on this track, but I just couldn’t pull myself away from the remarkable vocal style. The guitars keep it together and the vocal is strangely easy to follow despite the rapid lyrical style. It’s a sound that kind of reminds me of the early days of Red Hot Chili Peppers. The snappy, attitude-laden rock energy is perfect for the subset of rock fans who are looking for a bit of swagger to the sound.
