Three magical new indie folk tunes that will make you thankful for heartfelt songwriting

Neomi – “I Wish I Never Met You”
-I’m not sure how many times I’ve featured Neomi’s music by this point, but it’s quite a few. It’s easy to hear why I keep saying yes. There’s a lovely genre blend here that connects folk with indie pop and even some singer songwriter elements. It all comes together for a satisfying and engaging sound. There’s a solid percussive energy at the heart of this song that keeps it moving, but of course the layered vocals are my favorite here. There’s a genuine sense of meaning in the lyrics about wishing that a relationship had worked, but now that it didn’t wishing that it she never met the person. It’s scathing and emotional and feels true. There’s a real pain that can be felt listening to this song; it resonates.

Sabrina Russo – “Kneel Down”
-The acoustic guitar at the heart of this song caught my attention on first listen. There’s a sincerity in the lyrical composition that pulls at the heartstrings as well. Something about the vibe reminds me of the Laurel Canyon style of folk music. The lyrical delivery feels genuine with each line. It doesn’t just feel like a song, so much as almost a spoken word poem in some places. The plaintive delivery on the chorus gives me chills and… to be honest… I don’t have musicological terms for that. I adore this little track and am so glad to have discovered Sabrina Russo’s talent.

Stefan J. Selbert – “Rosebuds”
-I’m an absolute sucker for this type of layered vocal and acoustic guitar. Something about Selbert’s style feels like someone took everything I love about Dodie Clark and Adam Melchor, creating a super artist out of the meeting of their Venn Diagram. I adore the style of this track, creating this intimate recording style that feels close and connected. It’s comfortable, like having coffee with an old friend. There’s a rather meta feeling about the lyric hoping for the songs to be less sad. I know I don’t speak for everyone, but as long as the emotion is true, we are absolutely here for whatever emotional textures a song takes on. Selbert is a wonderful rising artist; I’m glad to be able to feature this new track.
