Three unique alternative textures in contemporary rock music

Stella Lovell – “Get Away”
-If you’re a fan of grungy alt-rock stylings, then Stella Lovell’s latest song, “Get Away,” is going to be a treat. The guitars have just the right amount of fuzz, and the percussive energy keeps the track moving. It is the perfect alt-rock anthem for folks who like that slight grunge that keeps the track feeling emotionally loaded. It reminds me of the kind of song you’d hear in a punk rock venue where the floors are a little sticky and the mood is heavier than you expected. The instrumental break around the minute and a half mark is really powerful and shifts the emotional mood of the track a great deal. I definitely recommend taking some time to enjoy this song.

Trails and Ways – “Young”
-There’s a buoyancy to this song “Young” by Trails and Ways that is welcome. It feels like something that could have come from the era of Fleetwood Mac. Some of it is dreamy pop, some of it is indie rock, and the delicate combination of the two makes for a listening experience that’s quite enjoyable. If you’re a fan of vocal harmonies and a light pop rock song that still has a sense of forward momentum, definitely give this one a chance.

Labrador – “Paths”
-Contemporary vibe to this song by Labrador called “Paths.” The best genre convention for it is probably alt-pop, although there are definitely some elements of pop rock in it as well. The effect on the vocal is atmospheric and moody in the best way. I think the understated groove is maybe my favorite part of the whole song. It encourages the listener to sway, to vibe, and to connect. The vocal is accessible and endearing, but it’s really the collective vocals on the chorus that brings this one in for a landing for me. I definitely see myself returning to this track regularly.
