Three new tracks in the alt pop space that will give you chills up your spine

Sidney – “anything”
-One of the great privileges of writing a music blog for the past decade plus is that I’ve gotten to hear some of the most incredible underrated artists. Sidney is an emerging alt pop artist who absolutely wears her heart on her sleeve; it’s so evident from this track that the artist is open and full of passion. This song has one of the most impassioned vocals I’ve heard in recent years. I think the easy comparison here is Maggie Rogers (yes, really). The overall energy of the track is incredible. I know some of you are shaking your heads that I’d call an artist with 100k+ Instagram followers “underrated,” but I say that because Sidney exhibits the talent that should be in the millions of followers on all platforms. Spin the platform and hear for yourself.

Buffy – “something better”
-This was one of the fastest approvals I’ve ever had; I think I clicked yes before the end of the first line. This is such a snappy, emotive track that I was won over pretty much immediately. The vocal has a characteristic element to it that I really appreciate. The layered vocal element also makes it feel that much more intimate; there’s something about the lyrical element that makes you feel like you’re sitting in a post apartment talking to your best friend. (Ok that might be a bit of projection on my part, but it’s what I feel so I said it.) The groove of this track is subtle, yet feels like the glue that holds the whole thing together. That crooning vocal on the chorus is such an earworm, it makes me want to play it on repeat every time I run across this track. Definitely check it out if you’re a fan of artists in the Phoebe Bridgers style of thoughtful alt pop music.

Megan Winsor – “Coven”
-If you’re a fan of folk-informed alt pop music, definitely cozy up with this unique track from Megan Winsor. It’s got a sense of mystery and intrigue to it, yet it’s not exactly a melancholy track. There’s something about the subtle vocal layering that reminds me of Billie Eilish and Finneas collabs. The vocal does a great job of bringing a sincere emotional wrinkle to the style overall. The track snaps with energy in some places, while almost smoldering with heat and vulnerability in other places. The full composition invites the listener into an intimate moment and connection. I would definitely recommend this for fans of Billie Eilish or Phoebe Bridgers. Winsor’s writing and vocal certainly belong in that company.
