Three brand new folk rock tracks that will make you think about the old days

Livingmore – “Hurting”
-One of the hallmarks of good folk rock music is that it moves along nicely. It’s almost always good driving music and this track “Hurting” fits that description well. The electric guitar has a nice loose energy that invites the listener to bop their head along with the beat. The lyrical style is about finding a way to forget the pain of things you’ve gone through. It’s amazing how the song feels like it captures the mid-70s so well. This is a gem of a time machine, captured in song.

Charlie Hues – “Quiet Boy”
-I’ve been a sucker for a well-picked acoustic guitar for as long as I can remember. There’s a soft, cathartic energy to this song that might feel more like conventional folk than folk rock, but trust me… there’s a rock element here as well. The energy of the track does this nice job of blending between relaxing folk with an edgier element that largely is captured with the lyrical style. It’s a poetic expression that is simultaneously encouraging to the listener while also capturing this sentiment of comfort. It gets better, but you need to experience healing. This is an underrated track that could work for therapy as well as grabbing a pint with a friend. It’s a beautiful composition and should be shared widely.

William Hinson – “Keaton”
-I don’t actually know William Hinson personally, but something about his voice and style makes me feel like I do. He writes with a personable and engaging style that captures my heart with every listen. This track is about grief and loss, so it might tug at your heartstrings. It feels more like a typical acoustic folk song rather than “rock” in the conventional sense, but I definitely think it’s worthy of a feature here today. The delicate piano work in the background does an amazing job of setting the stage alongside the impressive acoustic guitar work. But I think the thing I like most about this song is how approachable Hinson’s voice is; he feels like a friend. This is a sweet song and I’m sorry if it makes you think of someone… but also, what a lovely gift.
