Three delightful new tracks in the folk scene

The Pairs Music – “Little Light”
-I’ve been a fan of the soft folk harmonies of The Pairs Music for a while now. This track fits within that style quite well. Fans of vintage and modern folk will find reason to love this song. There’s a poetic style to the lyrical work here that pulls me in. It’s about finding the light, the spark inside that motivates you to pursue art, love, and who we really are. The song has a nice little break into a gospel style in the second half. I admire a great deal the buoyancy of this track. To be frank, it’s the kind of light and levity we need in the world today. It makes me feel like I’m back home again in many ways.

Ben Gage – “Ghost”
-Sometimes a song comes along that just makes me take pause and listen. Ben Gage’s work brought that for me when I was clicking through a submission stack. “Wow,” I thought. “This is so peaceful yet heavy.” I stand by that initial impression. The lines about letting people see who you really are and then they don’t really “get” you is, as he says, “bitter.” I’ve felt that as a writer as well. There’s an intimacy in this recording that reminds me a lot of Jeffrey Martin or even early Noah Gundersen. It’s an introspective that will have you leaning in closer to listen.

Sweet Dee and the Wild Honeys – “You were the one”
-If you’re a fan of vintage country music, definitely check out this new track from Sweet Dee and the Wild Honeys. It has that sweet country two step along with an emotional lead vocal that propels the thoughtful lyrics. It’s been said that real country music means that the songwriter wears their heart on their sleeve; I definitely feel that on this song. There’s a real sense of a “missed opportunity” with the unrequited love expressed in this tune. It could have been on the radio 70 years ago. It’s great to hear this sound being preserved like a time capsule. I’m happy to support it here.
