Mollie Elizabeth – “Doe Eyes”
-This is a song about the end of a summer fling, but it’s written with a timelessness that will make you think of the mid 20th century. I can’t help but think of the pop jazz phenomenon of the 1950s. There’s an element of rolling-rink twee energy to this song, too. “You put the tears inside of my doe eyes” feels almost saccharine in its excessive sweetness, that said it works for this composition. Mollie Elizabeth’s vocal feels absolutely sincere in every line, complete with this cutesy musical theater energy especially vibrant on the chorus. This is a hand clappy feel good song that feels like it blends generations for something truly unique.
Benedict – “Feel the Breeze”
-If you’re a fan of good piano music and excellent harmonies, definitely give this track a spin. The harmonies remind me a bit of 70s pop rock artists in the vein of Eagles, but there’s also this gentleness in the piano that feels timeless. I’m not sure I fully understand what alt pop means, but this song feels like it has the spirit of a pop song and the unhurried sincerity of just plain good music. It’s not trying to be a top 40 hit, but it has these major chords and good harmonies that could put it there (at least in some era). Lyrically, it’s got this nonchalance about just letting life come to you, “feel the breeze” and stop trying to force things. It’s beautiful and one of my favorites I’ve found recently.
The Winter Sounds – “Kaleidoscope”
-I don’t think I’ve looked in a kaleidoscope in probably a decade or more. But gosh, what a cool little toy from another time… a mind-altering, imagine-prodding tool. This track has an upbeat rock energy to it with some accessible lyrics about working to make a relationship be successful. I’m guessing the image of the kaleidoscope is about imagining the possibility of success. It’s a bright, energetic sound that brings in some synth and pop rock energy in the background with an optimistic, pop lead vocal. This is for your high energy playlists, for sure.
