Three folk singer songwriters to help you get through this long summer

Elijah Vale – “Take Things Slow”
-There’s a sincerity to this track that made it immediately pop out for me. It feels like listening to an old friend tell good stories. The acoustic guitar creates a comfortable base for the song to rest. The lyrics are reflective, featuring a desire to travel with someone all while taking it slow. It’s a bit of the “stop and smell the roses” type of sentiment. It’s got an inherent joy to it that I find endearing and meaningful. Vale’s songwriting has layers while remaining accessible. Fans of artists like Daryl Rahn will enjoy this track and Vale’s style.

Brian Dunne – “Clams Casino”
-I don’t remember how long ago I found my first Brian Dunne song, but it was probably a decade ago now. He’s always had this sincerity and depth in his songwriting that makes me want to lean in and listen closer. This new track “Clams Casino” has a modern Americana energy to it, with production that rivals contemporaries like Jason Isbell. I appreciate the energy and passion in the vocal. I really resonate with the question, “is it so bad to want a good life?” Honestly, I’m kind of disturbed with how relatable these lyrics are for pretty much anyone in midlife. It’s a jam.

Kyle Tallman – “Songs On the Radio”
-Since approving this song, I have listened to it several times. Without fail, I smile at the end of the first line. I’m not even sure why it happens, it just feels familiar. I’m not sure if this is a fair comparison, but I feel the same way about this sound like I did when I first listened to Ryan Adams. It’s this colorful blend of rock with a dash of folksy Americana… but at the end of the day it’s the relatable lyrical concept that makes it work so well. If you’ve ever driven down the road listening to the radio and had songs remind you of someone special, this song is for you. Considering a bunch of music transports me to my dad’s garage or my mom’s kitchen, I feel a deep connection with this one.
