Three new pop-flavored folk tracks that bring together different textures within the genre

Love, Alexa – “The Painter’s Wife”
-If you’re a fan of genuine singer songwriters, there’s a lot to like about this sound from Love, Alexa. There’s a lot of emotion in the lyrical delivery here. The production is outstanding, blending aspects of folk and pop for a truly wonderful sound. The example that keeps popping into my mind is Adele and, honestly, that’s a league that Love, Alexa is in with this sound. I appreciate the bluesy flourishes in the instrumentation (especially from the piano). The combination of quality production and intimate lyricism makes this a must-listen track. It deserves to be widely heard.

Sarah Trunzo – “Capricorn”
-I’m not much into astrology, but this song still makes sense even if you don’t get the references. The expressive acoustic work does a great job of propelling the song along, with the lyrical content pulling the listener in for connection. There’s something rich and rewarding about the quality of the vocal; Trunzo sounds like sitting down with a friend over coffee to really connect. The “don’t know where I am” and “don’t think I’m worthy” sentiments are unfortunately far too relatable to many listeners. At the end of the day, though, the song is about “trying” even when we don’t fully feel worthy. It’s inspiring and has this subtle encouragement that speaks to doing our best no matter how we “feel.” It’s gentle and comforting in the best way.

Noah Grey – “Shifting Ground”
-There’s a thoughtful sincerity to the acoustic guitar work on this track and I’m here for it. The vocal performance has a lot of depth, rising to the upper register with considerable emotional weight. The whole performance feels like a reaching out, a striving for connection. There’s a subtle gentle encouraging sentiment conveyed about the way the ground shifts in the midst of a relationship. “We were steady or something like it, now we barely move at all.” Whew, if that’s not a statement for midlife, I don’t know what it is. This song is delivered like a confessional, a prayer, and a poem all in one. I appreciate the tenderness; this one is sure to speak to the quiet part of your soul and it’s worth it.
