V!ctoria – “Pocketful”
-When I tell people that I like indie rock music, I have a very specific idea of what that sound means, but I’ve realized that not everyone feels the same way. For me, indie rock has to be melodic and satisfying, so when I find a track like this one with a driving rhythm and some wonderful soaring melodies, I click to play it again. The lyrical theme here is fast and loose, befitting the sonic elements of the song as well. It’s an excellent composition bringing in shifts in mood and style at just the right times to make these enjoyable, unexpected moments. The whole thing is an endorphin rush, so I do hope that our readers will give it a spin.
Navah Sea and Mr Cutts – “no one else but you”
-So I like the groove on this track… it caught my attention right away. But you know what I like even more? The layered vocal harmonies. This is a chilled out song that’s as much indie pop as it is rock, but we’re here for it. Some of the expressive sections invite the listener right into the pocket of the song; there’s a cozy middle here that makes you just want to vibe out in the midst of the sound. I won’t lie; I can’t always discern the lyrics, but the song seems to be conveying a sense of acceptance with that special someone. I think it accomplishes that goal well, going more for a vibe than a direct lyrical message.
Alex Bloom – “First Time”
-This track opens with a subtle guitar, but trust me when I say you should stay with it and let the track pick up. It’s one of those songs that lets you ease into it, but as the vocals enter you’ll feel… something… special. I guess I would describe it as a sense of “uplift.” The understated vocals present this chill mood, allowing the guitar work to be the main feature of the song. But if you keep being patient (yes, I know… just trust)… there’s this turn that feels like a satisfying late-60s rock ballad that’s sure to satisfy your ears. The psychedelic effects on the guitar puts me in mind of (certain) Beatles tunes, but more so bands like Pink Floyd in their unique guitar effects. It’s a sound well worth exploring and enjoying. I guarantee if you put this song on your playlist, your friends will want to know “who is THIS?” It’s that good.
