Three outstanding songwriters who are blending genres for exceptional results

Caldher – “Not Enough”
-Caldher is one of those names that I feel like I’ve been seeing a lot lately. The sound has elements of singer songwriter, adult contemporary, and even pop folk all blending together for something that feels satisfying and familiar. The expressive vocal layered over the cathartic piano is a great fit for this sound. The romantic lyrics are about heartache, the feeling of not being enough for someone. It’s a sweet and sincere lyrical concept that will resonate with anyone who has ever experienced unrequited love. The unique atmospheric elements help to convey the tension that is only resolved by the lead working to come to terms with the end of the relationship. It’s emotionally rich and rewarding.

Kris Allen – “Joaquin”
-If the name Kris Allen is familiar, yes it’s that Kris Allen from Idol. His career has been doing great in the past few years and we’ve been blessed to get to feature him a few times. His pop singer songwriter vibe is a perfect fit for what we curate around here and this song, a soulful pop banger, is absolutely right at home with us. Allen sings with a soulful energy and shows off an impressive upper range on this one. I know it’s easy to make comparisons with artists like Bruno Mars in the contemporary scene, but honestly the comp I feel more readily with Allen is James Morrison. There’s a smoothness in the delivery and overall production here that deserves to be widely shared. Give it a spin and tell a friend!

Matthew Dylan – “Bad Reception”
-The understated electric guitar in the opening of this track captures my attention right away; once the vocal enters with just the right effect on it makes for a fascinating opening sound. The lyrical message is about having a connection initially then having the relationship fall apart due to poor communication. This is a breakup song that processes complex, challenging emotions. I appreciate the rawness in the emotional composition here. In terms of genre, it has elements of blues, rock, and pop singer songwriter for a sound that feels relatable and engaging. If you’re going through a breakup, this one is perfect for that “crank it and sing loud” playlist.
