Creature Canyon – “Gotta Let Go”
-The lyrics to this song highlight what has been a bit of a theme for me in the past few weeks; we need to let go of the things we can’t control in life. To hear it so well expressed here is really wonderful to me. The electric guitars are clear and precise, setting up a powerful and expressive lead vocal. This is quintessential pop rock music for me. When I tell people that I like indie rock, this is the kind of music I mean. I love the way the power chords and vocals dance on this one, creating an energy that feels a bit like pop punk and pop punk together on the same track. The fact that it does all of this with a good lyrical message as well makes it a big hit for me.
Vincent Davies – “Days Like These”
-If you’re a fan of bluesy rock music, you’ll find a lot to like in this saucy new song from Vincent Davies. It’s got this inherent swagger to it that makes you feel cooler just listening to it. The understated bassline serves to set the stage for the attitude-laden vocal work. It’s a great track that has soulful elements peeking through what feels like a blues rock tune. The chord progression on the chorus is really well done; it puts me in mind of the kind of bluesy rock style that you might hear from the Rolling Stones or Led Zeppelin back in the day, but with a brighter contemporary sheen on the sound making it palatable for modern audiences. This is a snazzy sound and I hope it catches on.
Orr Marciano – “Trip”
-The beat on this track invites the listener right into the pocket; it’s an invitation to a whole mood that combines soul, blues, and pop. The sound echoes influences from the 60s and 70s, bringing them into a contemporary context with some excellent production. The hypnotic repetition from the piano chords creates a great base, but it’s the outstanding trumpet solo that really sets this track apart from the crowd. To be honest, I love the genre blend and the whole vibe of this song. It’s perfect to lean in and contemplate the trip that the lyrics focus on… or to just put it on in the background a vibe out. It’s a great tune that definitely goes down smooth.
