Three groovy indie pop tracks that will get you moving this weekend

The Mystics – “One Time High”
-I enjoy when I click play on a song and it feels like it could be about four different genres. Something about the mix and beat of this track from the Mystics feels a bit like classic rock, a bit like late 90s country, and even today’s indie pop. Of course the vocal harmonies are excellent. Beyond that, it’s just the kind of song that feels like an anthem to be sung at the top of your lungs. I appreciate that there’s this declarative energy to the song that definitely makes it satisfying. The lyrical question, “is this fate or desperation” is strong and intriguing. It’s a song that demands multiple listens.

Gorro – “I was pressed”
-The syncopation on the drums for this track is something special. It’s got a groove to it that’s really satisfying. There’s an effect on the guitars that makes them really ring through the production as well. The overall mix of this song feels like the exact type of murky conglomeration of indie pop, indie rock, and alt rock elements that stand out for me. The vocal harmonies on the chorus invite the listener to really lean into this one. I know I’m probably twice the age of the typical Gorro fan, but honestly just listening to this track makes me feel cooler.

Mobley – “Y’r Ghost”
-The chilled out syncopation and groove at the heart of this song is definitely worth your time and consideration. The talent of this artist, Mobley, is undeniable. The phrasing is excellent, poetic and sultry in moments, it is designed to capture the attention of listeners. “I can see it from the first step. I can see your ghost.” What a concept! There’s even a mysterious bridge that carries the opening soulful pop section into a second hard driving rock section. It’s almost theatrical in its impact. It’s the kind of song that demands attention. It should be heard by a massive audience, honestly.
