Three indie rock tracks that will change your life if you listen closely

Alexandra Leaving – “Out of This World”
-I have to be honest; I really like this type of dynamic pop rock energy. I can’t quite put my finger on which 90s artist Leaving reminds me of, but there’s definitely some nostalgic pins and needles happening for me as I enjoy this song. It’s a dynamic brand of rock that allows the guitars to drive the sound, ushering powerful vocals that soar over the top. The rhythm section under the sound provides a solid, gritty base for the track. This is what modern rock music is all about for me; it’s not so face melting that you can’t understand it, yet it has some genuine grit. The introspective whispery vocal aspect at the end is the perfect way to end this powerful track.

Slow Coast – “Better Weather”
-If you’re a fan of groovy rock music, you’ll find a lot to love with this new song from Slow Coast. The guitar riff in the opening put a smile on my face from first listen. The meandering, almost storytelling ethos of the first verse definitely works well and sets up an energetic chorus. The line, “I’m just holding on for better weather” rolls right off the tongue, providing a colloquial expression for something that is infinitely relatable. We’ve all been in those times of life where we’re just surviving until we get to better times. I dig the snappy energy on the verses and the way they contrast with the singalong (yet still alt rock) vibes of the chorus. In a word… it’s a bop.

Maykenzie Joy – “But I’ve Tried”
-If you’ve ever felt exasperated by the inane demands other people put on you in life, this song will absolutely resonate. It’s got an understated conversational rock style that provides a good, chill basis to the song. Something about the lyrical vibe here feels a bit like Alanis Morrissette for me on this one; there’s an evident emotional wound in a fractured relationship at the center of the message. I appreciate that it keeps the core energy of an alt rock tune both in the contemplative chorus as well as the stronger, ballad-esque chorus. The song is the total package and I hope it finds a wide audience.
