Bryce French – “Please”
-If you’re a fan of upbeat folk music, check out this new track from Bryce French. It’s a bit of a request, a love song with a cute expressive style. The lyrics give a fun and open declaration of desire. The instrumentation follows what you might expect from folk pop with guitars, handclaps, and a nice upbeat style. The harmony vocals on the chorus are really pleasing as well. This one was an easy “yes” for me as I adore this type of feel good music.
Alex Crossland – “You Told Me”
-I’m a big fan of the tone of Alex Crossland’s voice. It reminds me of two of my other favorites, Rusty Clanton and Adam Melchor. There’s a sincerity and depth in the sound that just makes you believe what he’s singing. The delicate banjo highlights punctuate the sound here, which is driven by a solid kick drum. The sound feels familiar and complex both at the same time. Some of the light guitar highlights help it feel like a genre blend in the best way. This is an artful piece of folk pop music and reminds me of what I loved about Bears Den and Darlingside when I discovered them. Crossland is on a promising trajectory and we’re happy to be here for it.
meja – “Places we’ve been”
-I would assume that the lead instrument here is a ukelele. The vocal has a sweet, lightness that makes it really enjoyable. The phrasing shows a sophisticated understanding of songwriting. There’s a lullaby quality to the song that really pulls the listener in. While the main melody line is a simple acoustic style, the atmospheric chords in the background really give it a sense of cinematic depth. This is a sound that seems like it could work on a TV show or film. The songwriting is cathartic and definitely worth adding to your peaceful folk pop playlists.
