Admiral Radio – “Love Is Alchemy”
-This isn’t my first time featuring an Admiral Radio track and I’m certain it won’t be my last. Their sound is just about as sweet as you’ll find in music today. The harmonies are heavenly. I appreciate the sentiment in the lyrics, but it’s really the vocal harmony that keeps me coming back from more with this emerging folk band. They remind me of what I loved when I first found Mandolin Orange (now Watchhouse). The easy going sway of this song is perfect for the kind of lyrical sentiment about the power of love. This isn’t just about romantic love, I’d say; there’s a meaning here that feels a bit higher, if you know what I mean. Love, indeed, transforms everything. What a great message!
Eric Mann – “…to Love Our Neighbors”
-Any song that opens with a line about Mr. Rogers is bound to get a smile out of this Pittsburgh-born kid. And the vocal on this song is OUTSTANDING. Eric Mann is not an artist I knew before I clicked play on this tune, but there’s just the right amount of gruffness-meets-tenderness in this tune that I’m definitely fan. “The world ain’t all that friendly… gettin’ through it’s pretty tough.” Amen to that. I even adore the country instrumentation (especially that killer steel guitar). There are other lyrics here I could highlight, but I just will let the song speak for itself. Not only should you spin this one, you should share it with a million of your closest friends. This is the kind of music that matters.
