Boston Levi – “Pretty Little Heartbreak”
-I really like the way the guitars soar on this track. The dynamic shift between the guitar breaks and the vocals on the chorus makes for an excellent listening experience. I’ve always been a sucker for these types of songs that feel like they would be a lot of fun to sing at a live show; this one is absolutely that style. It’s a lyrical theme that’s relatable. It’s a style that reminds me of 30 Seconds to Mars in the best way possible. This one has major hit potential if it could just get rotation on some big lists.
The Kruuk – “Going Mad”
-From the first time I listened to this song I thought, “oh yeah, this is it.” You know the feeling? The groove just hits right, the chord choices are great, and the whole vibe just sits right there in the pocket of the type of rock I like. The lyrics are a bit introspective in a way that matches the mysterious vibe of the instrumentation. It’s got a color balance that feels a bit like early Rolling Stones blended with 90s rock like Stone Temple Pilots. It’s a sound that’s going to resonate with classic rock as well as more recent styles as well. It’s the kind of song that reminds me just how important a good guitar lick is to making a track stick in your head. This one sure does.
Jeffrey Weber – “Be A Kid Again”
-For something to be rock it doesn’t have to be massive production and a soaring style; in fact, sometimes a stripped down acoustic song can feel more rock than a bigger style track. This song oozes with spiritual overtones and a deep, personal feel to it. I appreciate the acoustic guitar. It reminds me of those guys at every party (you know the guy) who pulls out an acoustic guitar. Although, instead of a pitchy version of “Wonderwall,” this guy can actually sing… and has some original lyrics in this song. It is ostensibly about being a kid again, but it’s also about the dripping nostalgia of when life was simpler.
