Tessa Dalton – “You See Me”
-The piano on this song captured my attention right away. The more I listened, though, the vocal was what really won me over. There’s a beautiful, subtle energy in the quiet parts that are equally matched with power in the louder sections. What I’m trying to say is that I love the dynamics here. There’s an emotional sincerity to the track that just makes it resonate. In a world with many vapid lyrics, it’s great to hear something meaningful that is so well executed in this performance. “You see me and they don’t.” It’s an authentic song about the importance of authenticity in a relationship. And besides, it’s unbelievably enjoyable to listen to… audibly appealing with excellent production and dynamics. Spin it! You won’t be disappointed.
Vilhelm Buchaus – “Break My Heart Again”
-Okay, I’m going to tell you right now if you’re not sitting down you should probably sit down. The emotional rollercoaster of this song is more than you’re ready for, I can promise you. It’s about heartbreak, of course, but it’s also about the pain of going back and forth between falling in love all over again, just to have your heart broken repeatedly. The sincerity in the vocal from Buchaus is sure to win over a lot fans. Something about the vocal quality feels like a cross between Bruno Mars and Adele (just trust me on this… listen to the chorus and you’ll hear it). The soaring vocal style is balanced by some delightful expressive lines that are almost poetic in their softness. The whole composition is on another level. If there was justice in the world, this would be a top 40 song. Heaven knows this songwriter and performer deserves the recognition. It’s truly a work of art!
MARIS – “Salt Water Taffy”
-I am about to say something bold; MARIS has the vocal style and quality of Rachel Price (Lake Street Dive). Yes, I mean it. Yes, I know how high of praise that is. I stand by my comparison. MARIS can sing and this song is a perfect display of that incredible talent. What I love is that the opening has this nice pop jazzy vibe to it that pulls the listener in, then the song absolutely explodes on the chorus into an anthemic indie rock track that will have you singing along. This is such a powerful, dynamic performance that keeps me coming back for more. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do and share the heck out of this outstanding track.
