Three dynamic indie pop tunes to energize your late July

PARALLELZ – “Turning”
-Give me a basic rock beat with some vibey guitars and I’m interested… add in a great vocal and I’m hooked. I like everything about this tune, but it’s the sincerity in the vocals that seals the deal for me. It feels a bit like something that the mid-career Beatles would have made. The guitars capture the magic of rock energy while the vocals have a lightness in them. Actually, on second thought, maybe it’s more like mid-career Beach Boys. There’s definitely some Brian Wilson in the melodic structure here. Call it what you will, I’m always happy to support this type of musicianship, artistry, and performance.

Ashley Elle – “Falling”
-I love the acoustic energy on this recording. I was hooked on first listen. It makes me think of some of the music others in my house listen to like Taylor Swift and Sabrina Carpenter. That said, there’s a maturity and depth in the songwriting here that makes it stand out in the indie pop scene. There’s a joyfulness in the beat that contrasts nicely with the seriousness of trying to make a relationship work with someone who may lack the necessary maturity. There’s an emotional complexity in the lyrics that show that it’s more than “just” a bouncy pop song; it’s about the layers of falling in love.

Marco George – “There She Goes”
-The chilled out energy here does a nice job of laying the foundation for a sweet, atmospheric vibey sound. I’m not sure whether to call this soul, neosoul, pop, or just chilled out indie pop. No matter what you call it, this is an incredible tune. What’s weird about it is that it’s so chill and easy going, yet I feel like I just want to keep turning it up. There’s probably some musicology word for that, but I’m just saying I like this song a lot. If you’ve ever been mesmerized watching someone walk away… this song is your jam. And I am absolutely feeling this one.
