So let’s talk about this for a moment: We were approached by Groover to consider using their platform. Initially we were hesitant as we are definitely big supporters of SubmitHub! However, since the two platforms allow outlets to use either one (thanks!), we are able to be accessible for both. Groover is a French company, but we have received songs from all over the globe. We’re happy to offer more submission opportunities for the bands trying to get their work to our ears. Now, without further ado, a few tracks that we really loved on Groover last week!
Sean Magwire – “Long Straight Line”
-Honestly, this was one of the first tracks we received on Groover and I was immediately, pleasantly surprised. Everything about the production reminds me of the kinds of music we tend to curate in our indie folk coverage. Magwire has a great vocal and his writing encourages people to do the right thing. It’s the kind of positivity that we are happy to support. There’s always trouble up ahead, but we shouldn’t worry. It’s about focusing on the love between two people. It’s about faithfulness, love, devotion, and staying true despite the challenges of life. I appreciate the pop country elements, the folksy styling, and the quality songwriting. This one was a quick “yes” for me.
Adeline V. Lopez – “i heard she’s crazy”
-If you’ve been around my indie pop coverage for any length of time, you know I’m a sucker for this type of writing. The understated vocal in the opening makes the listener lean in right away. The expressive guitar work and balanced production is perfect for the indie pop sound we’ve been curating. The quality of the vocal is stunning, allowing the listener to really connect with the main lyrical sentiments about the effects of a broken heart. The song has just the right kind of emotional depth that’s sure to resonate with a lot of listeners and the production works really well here.
Mallory Chipman – “One More Day”
-From the first time I clicked play on this song I have had a million different comparisons come into my head. Everything from Linda Ronstadt to Grace Potter seems to work here. The common trait is that Chipman sings with the same kind of vocal and lyrical conviction as those classic, powerful female singer songwriters. The sentiment at the heart of the song of desiring to be with someone “just one more day” is common, yet there’s an expressive sincerity in this performance that really makes the listener believe it. The jazzy sentimentality in the melodic structure works perfectly with the longing, loving message of the lyrics. It’s a great song from melody, to vocal, to production. I’m happy to support this one.
