Juliana Madrid – “Heathen”
-I’m surely not the first person to compare Juliana Madrid’s style to Maggie Rogers; I mean it’s right there from the inflection and even the melody choices. There’s a clear influence from the Lilith Fair Tour artists and this emotive, rock-folk vibe. It works really well. Madrid’s lyrical style has a brilliant combination of approachable familiarity combined with a deep, almost philosophical nuance to it. It’s about infidelity, what could have been, and what could never be. The thoughtful reflection blends well with the indie pop influenced vibe of the track. This is one of those songs that the more I listen to it, the more I like it and that’s saying something because I clicked “yes!” on first listen. Spin it and love it.
