Leau – “Too Many Friends”
-Fans of atmospheric folk music will appreciate the quality of this indie pop track from Leau. The dynamic rise on the chorus is beautiful for the listener. The lyrics are about dealing with how you feel when things don’t work in a relationship. The layered and repeated “could it be real life?” feels cathartic and peaceful. The whole composition shows a sophisticated and engaging style of indie pop. Fans of artists like Lizzy McAlpine or Maggie Rogers will find a lot to like with this sound.
Brielle Kaga – “Mess It Up”
-I am an unapologetic fan of this sort of emotional indie pop like Brielle Kaga makes. The layered electronic and acoustic instrumentation pulls me into a melody that’s easy to connect with. The lyrics are smart and savvy. If you’ve ever been in a situation where a relationship might take off, but you find a new way to mess it up every time, this song is for you. The relatable lyricism and overall accessible style is sure to win over a lot of fans. It leans more “pop” in production than much of what we cover, but I do think it really works on this track. It’s a great way to introduce your friends who like the top 40 to a more indie style of artist.
Real Topeka People – “Goddamn”
-If you’re a fan of artists like Bruno Mars, definitely give this new track from Real Topeka People a spin. It’s got a lot of attitude in the best way. The saucy beat and lyrics do a great job of bringing energy. It’s danceable while also being chill. In some ways, the sound reminds me a bit of a Justin Timberlake style. I could definitely imagine this sound on a DJ’s playlist at a club. It’s probably more dance pop than most of what we cover around here, but honestly it just… hits. This could be a massive hit if it gets the airplay it deserves.
