Three outstanding new folk tunes that remind us why we started blogging in the first place

Peacemode – “My love (is like a waterfall)”
-When I started blogging many years ago, it was because I wanted to share indie artists with my friends. The sound of a band like Peacemode fits that mold perfectly, bringing an energetic yet melodically satisfying new folk sound. The harmonies, in particular, work really well for me. The overall blending of instruments, voices, and optimistic lyricism make it a natural fit for the type of music I enjoy featuring and listening to. This one will make it to my personal playlists as it’s great from start to finish.

Will Knox – “Growing Pains”
-I’ve been a sucker for calming acoustic finger picking as long as I can remember. Hearing the subtle vocal style of Will Knox over this beautiful finger picking makes for a breathtakingly good sound. The lyrical flow on this track is also outstanding. “Growing up is not the same as growing older, growing pains.” Wow. It’s a thoughtful, evocative concept about healing and recovery. The raw emotionalism of this song is worth encountering, but it also sounds incredible as well. Knox reminds me a bit of what I like about Greg Holden’s songwriting. Knox is in that class as a songwriter and performer.

Stephen Babcock – “Foot in My Mouth”
-If you’re a fan of folk rock jams that have a good melodic core to them, give this new track from Babcock a spin. I love how the song bounces from one concept to the next. The “foot in my mouth” colloquial lyric concept works well here as it’s relatable, almost universally, to the human experience. The line “it’s almost better to let it all go” really hit me hard. The cleverness of the lyrics balance perfectly with the hand-clappy joy of the melody. The combination brings me a sense of joy from head to toe. This is a great tune and a lot of (far too relatable) fun!
