Minor Moon – “I Could See It Coming”
-When I tell people I like folk rock music, this is pretty much the exact sound I’m talking about. Putting me in mind of Tom Petty from yesteryear and Dawes from more recent years, this song absolutely resonates. It’s a cool riff on the electric guitar and punctuated, meaningful lyric work that makes the song stand out from the crowd. The clarity on the production is outstanding. Fans of folk rock are going to absolutely love the pacing of the chorus with the line “I could see it coming” with the brief pause and then the killer guitar riff. It just feels right.
Dave Sorrendino – “Little Moments”
-When it comes to blending genres, you can’t do much better than this track with shades of pop, folk, and even a dash of rock. Sorrendino’s vocal comes through with clarity and precision. The writing has the right amount of optimism and sincerity. If you’ve ever felt romantic love, you’ll be able to relate to the desire to just want to be by someone’s side. It’s a cute love song, sure, but it’s the overall vibe of the song that makes it work well. It’s got movement, clever lyrics, and captures the sense of what it’s like to experience little moments with someone you love… and how meaningful they can be when everything is just right. This is so good; it’s got some Ben Rector vibes (and that’s high praise where I sit).
Argyles – “please be mine”
-When this song opens it sounds like a chilled out acoustic folk song, but I urge you to stick around and let it develop. It’s a fun track with an optimistic energy. The layers, especially from the organ, make it feel like a fun song with shades to mid-20th century country music. I like how the song builds from the opening, allowing the lead vocal to delivery an inspiring message toward a satisfying message about love coming back to you. The smooth electric guitar on the bridge is one of my favorite parts of this satisfying, chilled out folk rock tune. It’s a good one, folks.
