Three intriguing new singer songwriter tracks that you’ll want for your 2024 playlists

Alex Crossland – “Parade”
-Every lyric of this song feels like it was intentionally penned in its place. The question at the heart of the song is sort of a breakup song. It seems that the person was a bit overly dramatic, so this song is about why do we need a parade and a charade about the relationship. There’s a real emotional core to the song which makes it stand out. I dig the understated production and cool chord work. The muted trumpet solo is just… *chef’s kiss*. This is definitely a track for fans of quirky yet enjoyable indie music and… let’s face it… if you’re reading this… that’s you!

Ian Shaw – “Lucy”
-I say all the time that a song with a woman’s name as the title is either a love song or a heartbreak song. There’s really no middle ground. This beautifully emotional acoustic track from Ian Shaw leans more toward the heartbreak end of things. There are a lot of things this song could mean, but I don’t want to speculate. The sonic construction is magical, allowing the intimacy of the acoustic guitar to carry significant weight. The atmospheric elements in the background create a sense of depth and gentleness in the track. It’s really quite powerful. Shaw has a gift and we look forward to featuring more from this rising songwriter.

Another White Lie – “The Absence”
-It’s not every day we get to feature a song that has the lyric in the band’s name, but we do today. The first line of this song gives the lyric “another white lie.” The beginning of the track feels like it’s going to be harder than it is. It ends up feeling a bit more like an early 90s alt rock track through the majority of the song. The strengths are the unique melody, the standout lead vocal, and the engaging backing band that captures the spirit of rock music without blasting too far away from the lyrical core of the track. The lyrics seem to be about a broken relationship and a request for a second chance.
