Asha Wells – “Blue Angels”
-From the first time I clicked play on this track, I’ve been entranced by Asha Wells’ voice. There’s something that feels timeless and classic about the sound. Wells reminds me a bit of the classic sound of 70s pop artists like Cass Elliott. The chilled groove of the track feels comfortable, like being invited into a dream. There’s an air of sophistication to the whole production and recording that makes it resonate really well for me. I hope you all enjoy it as well.
Ana Galeli – “High Alert”
-If you’re a fan of chill rock from the late 60s and early 70s, you’ll find a lot to like about this sound from Ana Galeli. The theme is about being on “high alert” with eyes wide open, constantly watching for attacks on emotional well being. It seems to be a heartache song, having high alert as a response to something that happened in the past. It’s a bit tragic, but the vocal is so beautiful that it makes it have this almost pop bluesy element to it. It’s hard to find a comparison because it’s such a unique sound and that’s precisely the highlight of the song. Give it a spin!
Trapper Schoepp – “Devil’s Kettle”
-I thought about saving this song to put it with a few Americana tunes. It’s got a genuine Delta Blues vibe to it. Schoepp sings with a raspy voice and a ton of conviction. The lyrics are ultimately a warning about getting caught up in some sort of vice. The blending of natural and supernatural imagery feels thoroughly classic blues. If you’ve ever been in the bayous of the Deep South (or love its music), then this sound will certainly resonate. It’s a cautionary tale, but it sure does make it sound mysterious at times.
