Three exciting rock tracks to get this week off to an energetic start!

The Ritz – “Give Me a Sign”
-This song sounds like rock history. I don’t mean that it sounds like it’s from rock history, but that it’s a connection of several artists from the incredible Rolling Stones to more recent alt rock acts in the 2000s. The powerful energy of the guitars and soaring vocal definitely stand out from the indie rock crowd. The lyrics are simple enough to be relatable (a sign to move forward in a relationship) while also conveying a message that we’ve all felt when in that uncertain flirty early days of a relationship to be. It’s a cool track with some quintessential rock elements.

Molly Seger – “long way home”
-When it comes to lyrics, Molly Seger has a gift. The sentiments in this song certainly convey the complexity of a relationship. While some writers are poetic, Seger’s writing is direct and meaningful. It’s almost like reading a letter straight to the other person. If you’ve ever felt the need to put on an act when you’re emotionally wrecked from a relationship, this song will be relatable. The unconventional melodic layers here definitely smack more of alt rock than our typical coverage, but the soaring vocal on the chorus fits soundly in our indie rock coverage. It’s a cool sound with some great songwriting.

Native Love – “Expensive”
-Providing a chilled out indie rock groove, Native Love create a style that’s sure to connect for fans of early 2000s alt rock music. I’m put in mind of bands like Bush and Stone Temple Pilots. Where the melody lacks precision lines, there’s a funky flavor from the bass that makes the sound feel like it would be perfect for a Vans Warped Tour crowd. The lyrics are complex and there’s some interesting sections with almost spoken word, but it’s definitely a sound that will feel familiar (in a good way) to a lot of our readership.
