Belle Mt. – “Feathers”
-When it comes to love songs, you can’t do much better than the tenderness of Belle Mt.’s latest “Feathers.” The expressive acoustic guitar leads to a beautifully reflective vocal that conveys a lot of passion. Even once the track moves from acoustic to more of a collective vocal style, it captures an emotive nostalgia. It’s a song about looking back on a love from earlier in your life, wondering what could have been. It’s a heartfelt track and… well, let’s just say it might bring up some emotions you haven’t felt for a long time. It’s an amazing song.
transmission from the water-tower – “summer is icumen in”
-If you think the title of this song looks familiar it’s because it’s a play on a classic medieval tune that is part of the western canon. This song, however, is much more of a recent poppy flavored folk tune. I love it, honestly. Everything from the gentle acoustic, similarly gentle vocal, and definitely the horn solo works really well. I appreciate how unhurried the song is, much like a summer afternoon relaxing with friends. It’s a really sweet bit of artwork with a wonderfully creative play on words in the title.
Timber Choir – “Mockingbird”
-I love the harmonies on this song. I’ve always been a fan of unique choral instrumentation fused together with folk music. This track has elements that I loved from Darlingside and the Lowest Anthem. Hearing that magic brought to life on this song along with some delightfully unpredictable turns in the melody make this an instant stand out. If you have friends that say all folk music sounds the same, play this track for them. It’s absolutely fascinating! This is high art.
