**Before I write about these three artists, let me just say thank you to the OGs who have been around since the early days. We’re so grateful we get to do what we do. If there’s ever been an artist you loved because you found them on our site, then we’ve done our jobs. Peace, love, and harmony.**
Noah Guthrie and Good Trouble – “Rockstar”
-I can’t think of a much better music style – a fresh take on classic rock in a modern indie rock package – or a better lyrical message – the desire to make it big in the music industry – as a way to kick off this celebratory article. Guthrie’s vocal has the gruffness that reminds me of Matthew Mayfield and David Ramirez, two of the artists we featured in the early days. This song represents what we loved and continue to love about finding new music. Pure passion, boys.
COVES – “Growing Pains”
-If you like soaring pop rock, you’ll find a lot to like with COVES. There’s an exciting, almost romantic energy to this track from COVES. The optimistic electric guitars and expressive vocals that allow the listener to understand every lyric really feels like the perfect fit for what we cover. The blend of pop rock and pop punk on this track definitely feels like the golden age of when I was in high school (early 2000s). The quality of the lead vocal, though, is the thing that’s going to make this one stand out from the crowd. Give it a spin. It’s a rock song that you feel as much as you hear.
Moonshine – “On and On”
-There are probably a few dozen different subgenres you could call this song, but what I call it is pop rock. The lead vocal reminds me a little of early No Doubt era Gwen Stefani. The clear production style gives the track a lot of flair. The lyric, “you’re in my head,” definitely feels familiar if you’ve ever had that lingering obsession about an ex. The song is relatable, the groove pops well, and the vocal is outstanding. Seriously, what more could you ask for in a pop rock tune? This is great!
**Note: The reason I went with YouTube links for all of these is that hopefully they will link on our Hype Machine account. Yes, that still exists. Yes, it still helps bands.
